As the population of
the U.S. ages, it is
estimated that
the number of people diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease
will increase exponentially, creating the need for more
in-home and institutional care options. Although most
people with Alzheimer's are cared for at home by family
members, individuals in the later stage of the disease
will likely experience needs that cannot be met in the
home setting. Jenkins has provided a secure unit to care
for Alzheimer's victims for a number of years. The
single-story building provides 14 private and 2
double-occupancy rooms, as well as a secure outdoor
courtyard that can be accessed by residents whenever
they desire. Some of the important elements addressed in
the unit include: specially-trained consistent staff,
focused activities, a quiet and pleasant environment,
and a home-like atmosphere where family members and
staff work together to provide care and security for
each resident.
In
our “Reflections” Memory Care Unit, consistent staff and
daily routines offer our residents a home-like
atmosphere designed to inspire and stimulate their
senses. The goal of Reflections is to provide a safe,
secure setting where the residents can feel like they
are at home. The daily programming seeks to provide
mental and social stimulation, thereby helping to draw
out the person whose life has been altered by
Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia.
Our trained staff takes a holistic approach to resident
care, with interactions designed to appeal to the
spirit, soul and body. A full-time Chaplain is on duty
at Jenkins Living Center and is available to supplement
the spiritual
needs of each resident. Other health care professionals
that are available for assistance and/or
consultation include:
*Licensed Nursing Staff
*Physical, Occupational & Speech
Therapies
*Registered Dietitian
*Pharmacist
*Medical Director |
